Facilitating strategic planning

Most organisations require a strategic plan to outline their key goals and objectives. When you use our unique approach, developing a strategic plan can be engaging!

Our approach to strategic planning is to first understand the organisation, the people in it, and its relationship with other organisations. Once this background work is completed and presented, we lead a facilitated workshop to identify the main elements of your strategic plan. Using plain language to describe the goals and objectives ensures the plan becomes a useful document. We can also provide follow-up sessions to refresh thinking or to make sure you’re staying on track.

Policy reviews & development

Polices steer organisations and help mitigate risks for them. Developing policies and reviewing them can be a daunting task.

We have available an extensive library of policies covering a wide range of areas such as regulation, governance, and management. We can support you to develop individual policies or a set of policies that cover a particular area. For policy development, it’s important that we work with you to meet your particular needs.

Action learning groups

In an action learning group, people come together and work through a process to help support and potentially resolve issues.

A session usually takes two to three hours. Participants share a particular issue and the group facilitator steers them through a defined process that allows them to raise questions and offer ideas. Action learning groups usually meet monthly, which also provides an opportunity to review previous issues.

A group can also select a topic for discussion. The facilitator acts as a researcher, producing material for participants to review and then discuss at the meeting.

Andrew Charnock

I have had a 48-year career in healthcare, including over 30 years’ experience in health regulation.

I was Chief Executive and Registrar for the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand from 2009 to 2023. I was also a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK and have worked for the Nursing Council of New Zealand, the Osteopath Council, and the Chiropractic Board.

I have held many practical leadership roles in the UK and New Zealand, including as a charge nurse ITU, senior lecturer, manager of a residential care facility, and director of nursing.

I bring a strong strategic element to my work and consider myself to be future-focused and a creative thinker with an empowering and engaging style. I am always looking for alliances and connectivity.

I believe in proactive governance with facilitative operational management. I am project-orientated with a strong work ethic and a drive for organisational advancement.

“Andrew assisted the Council with its strategic planning recently, and as a completely new entity, this was a challenging task to say the least. The Council found Andrew’s approach personable, refreshing, insightful, and welcomed the wealth of knowledge he brought to the strategic planning day. Prior to the planning day, Andrew demonstrated a willingness to try and understand the profession and gather background information, by engaging with Council members, providers, and professional groups.

A few challenges arose during the day and Andrew was able to manage these well and modify the content and direction of the day to accommodate these. He provided a safe environment for learning and discussions and everyone found the day enjoyable, interactive, and most importantly, productive!”

His extensive experience in governance and management, coupled with his practical knowledge of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCA Act) and current health reform made him the best option for this task. He had great rapport with our Board and staff alike, and his professional and practical manner in which he worked made it a very easy task.”
